Matthew Burns has always felt a strong connection with Quandamooka Country and has a passion for sharing his stories and knowledge. In 1995 he first started sharing his culture as a part of a traditional dance troupe called Yulu Burri Ba. By 2004, he was facilitating his own cultural workshops for school, university and special interest groups.
Today, Matthew shares his culture with over 7,000 people a year on North Stradbroke Island and in the greater Brisbane region. He enjoys making all of his own artefacts, including knives, spears and ropes. He also has a particular talent for being informative, respectful and funny all at once!
There are activities suitable for all age groups, including walking tours, presentations and artefact demonstrations. He can tailor tours to suit small or large special interest groups.
Tours are based on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) however, a specialised experience can be organised for other locations within the Redlands Coast (Quandamooka).
Join this informative walking tour where you explore the shore of Goompi (meaning Dunwich), a place of cultural significance on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). Learn some history of Quandamooka Culture and other fascinating aspects such as the signs in nature and traditional tools and instruments.
