Tangalooma means "where the fish gather"
Approximately 1 hour & 45 minutes each way.
Beneath it's crystal clear waters, that surround the shipwrecks. More than 200 species of fish & 130 species of coral. 3 different species of marine sea turtle, dolphins, wobbigong sharks & stingray. The wrecks are considered one of Australia’s best-snorkeling destinations.
In 1963, 15 ships were scuttled to create a break wall for small boats which were island hopping.

There was no official use until 1849.
In the 1870s, became the main Quarantine station.
The Asylum, was one of Queensland's largest mental health asylums.
Built in 1866.
Patients were then moved to Peel island Lazaret in 1907
