Forget the world at Coochiemudlo

Forget the world at Coochiemudlo

By Guest Bloggers - Brisbane Girls Abroad

Winter is at its end and that means it’s time to start looking for the best places to soak up some sun and cool down with a swim!

We recently discovered Coochiemudlo, a tiny island paradise that is just a 10-minute ferry ride from Victoria Point, Redlands Coast. We instantly loved the vibe of Coochie (as it’s nicknamed by the locals), a peaceful little place, bordered by pristine, beaches that made us feel as though we’d stepped onto a deserted island.

Getting there: The ferry runs every half hour from Victoria Point, which is just under 40 minutes, driving from Brisbane city. We brought our bikes over with us; on weekends and at peak times you’ll have to take bikes on the barge, which leaves Victoria Point less frequently (approximately every hour). Bikes were perfect for getting around the Island, which is only about 5km around, and bringing ours allowed us to explore easily.

What to do: We recommend a day of swimming, sunbathing and exploring the beaches and coves. On the side of the Island closer to the ferry the beaches are sandy and white and perfect for swimming. There is also a venue that hires paddle boats and barbecue boats, which could be a lot of fun with friends.

We brought the necessities for a barbecue and cooked up a sausage sizzle at the park near Morwong beach, which is a gorgeous wetland area and was a perfect spot to watch the sun go down.

The sense of peace and tranquility on Coochie had us wishing we could stay the night, to wind down with a glass (or bottle) of wine. It’s definitely a place we can see ourselves coming back for a girls’ trip, to wind down and forget about the rest of the world.
